PC Housekeeping Tips:
You should always keep your PC/ Laptop in
perfect working condition. A fast and reliable PC will mean you can accomplish
more in the same time of work. Organised filing system a pre-emptive
maintenance will ensure you get information when you need.
Here are some of the tips:
1.
Delete unwanted files from your
PC. Be very careful to use disc space even when it is cheap as you will be able
to find files faster.
2.
Right click on HDD icon and
properties you can use disk clean up to remove system generated unwanted files.
3.
Defragment your disc even when
you have scheduled defrag. Especially after a large data deletion.
4.
Scan disk once a month or
quarter depending on your use. (tick both options and restart your PC)
5.
Backup every 15 days to once in
a quarter depending on your use to an External HDD.
6.
You can also use online backup
like mozy.com.
7.
Clear your desktop: had not
more than 25 icons. It will make your PC respond faster.
8.
If you use Outlook, then use
Scanpst (found in Office13 or Office 14 folder in your computer) and repair
your Outlook data file. Do this every quarter ideally.
9.
Removed unwanted programs from
startup using msconfig.
10.
If you have registery cleaner
you can use that. It may speed up the system start up time.
11.
Turn on the firewall in case it
is off.
12.
Use a compressed air cleaner to
blow off dust from your computer. Especially fan as in India we have dusty
environments and it clogs the dust vents.
13.
Use monitor wipes to clean
monitor.
14.
Make sure the wires are arranged
properly so there is less dust collection.
15.
Make sure that the virus
definitions are latest and do a thorough scan of system.
16.
Ensure that the Windows and
Office have been updated from Internet.
17.
Unwanted / Not used programs
should be removed.
18.
If you use iPhone or iPad,
connect iTunes to internet and check for updates.
19.
Sync your phone with your
computer so that there is a backup of your contact.
20.
If you use laptop, then once
every quarter you should reset the battery by draining it 100% and then fully
recharging it.
